Joseph H. Pilates’ Method is one of the oldest newest exercise systems to make the news. Ironically, it has taken a century to get the word out about this unique and powerful exercise system. Joseph Pilates said about himself before he died that people would say he was 50 years ahead of his time. When people mention that Pilates’ Method is a new craze, a fad, an appropriate response is, "Joseph Pilates was born in 1889, he began developing his method as a young boy, the method has endured close to 100 years." What makes Pilates’ Method unique? When there is an exercise system that can be done by literally any person, old or young, fit or unfit, injured or healthy, pregnant or post-partum, athlete or non-athlete it is very special. Most people find the exercise session, which can be done one-on-one or semi-private, pleasant and fun, educational and diverse, with little or no recovery after the session. Pilates’ Method is an experience, one of mind-body connection, leading to better posture, stronger and more flexible muscles and increased body awareness in other activities. |
